You may have seen me wandering around
the village muttering to myself and
punching the air now and again (writes Lisa
Apps-Bailey). The reason? I do Pokémon
Go. I thought that I would give you a little
idea of what it is all about.
Where do I start?? According to Wikipedia
`Pokémon Go is a 2016 augmented reality
mobile game - the aim is to locate, capture,
train, and battle virtual Pokémon which
appear as if they are in the player's real-world
location9 . I downloaded it on my mobile phone in 2016 and played for
about a year before stopping when my phone died and the mobile
data was super expensive. There were 150 Pokémon to collect and the
highest level was 40. There were and are still 3 teams Blue (mystic) ,
Red (valour) and Yellow (instinct). You choose a team which you can
change but it cost lots of coins. I am Blue.
I started it again in July 2024 as I thought it was a good way to get me
out walking. At that time the highest level was 50 and there seems like
there9s a bazillion Pokémon to catch. BIG news in October this year
there is a massive shake up planned and the levels go up an amazing
80. We have loads of things to do to get lots of XP (experience points)
to level up.
Your distance in the game is measured by the kilometre and you get to
hatch eggs (either 2k, 5k, 7k from friends, 10k and 12k from the
baddies) if you have a buddy you can also earn candy which is used to
power up and/or evolve that Pokémon into a stronger variety.
You also have medals to try and attain - there are about 100 of these.
The tiers are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. These medals could be
walking a certain distance, catching a certain amount of a pokemon
type , winning battles, spinning pokestops, hatching eggs - there are a
100 of them so I am not going to list them all here!
Pokestops and gyms are where you get your supplies and some of the
eggs. They are points of interest so you can ond out a little bit of the
history of the place that you are in. You can get gifts as well which you
send to your virtual friends. I do have quite a few real world friends
honest.... . When you reach a certain friendship level you can trade
