NEWS FROM
ST. JAMES’S CHURCH
The first thing that I should talk about is Roland
Sanders Thanksgiving Service which was held on
Monday, 21st July at 3pm. The service was
conducted by Revd Dr Michael Grandey, organist was Sue Rainger. The
bells rang loud and proud, not muffled. This was a moving service with
Sam Sanders doing the Eulogy (see p4). A poem was read by Joe
Sanders. Janet Lake also sang a solo.
There were over 180 people at the
service. Afterwards Anthea and the
family stood at the Church gates,
thanking everyone - what a lovely
thought - with the sound of the bells
ringing in the background. Donations
were divided between Children's
Hospice South West and St.James's
Church. £269 was raised for the
Church. I think this is a lovely photo of
Roland with Sarah Howland.
Patronal Service was held on 27th July at 11am.The Bishops Chair was
gifted to the Church by Eric Puffett in memory of Sue Puffett. There is also
a plaque on the back of the chair in Sue's maiden name. This was
dedicated to God's glory and blessed by Michael Grandey. Food was
bought and shared with refreshments by 29 people after the service.
Joint Songs of Praise, together with the Chapel, in the Square on 3rd
August at 4.30pm. The service was taken by Reverend Anna Flindell. 18
people were in attendance. There were 2 readings and 6 hymns. Thanks
goes to Cedric for doing one of the readings and thanks to Sue Rainger
for playing the organ. The rain kept away and the sun shone.
6th August 7-9pm The Deanery Bell Ringers were ringing the bells. Two
new people had a go and at the end were interested in some training. 22
attended and it was a bring and share food with refreshments.
Margaret Gammack's Thanksgiving Service was held on Friday, 8th
