The blackberry blossoms provide a feast for our bees, and the
yellowhammers sing from the telegraph wires, "A little bit of bread
and noooo cheese"
Autumn Abundance
As autumn arrives, the fruits ripen, and
we are rewarded with a harvest of nuts.
The flocks of starlings and fieldfares are
returning, joined by the golden plovers,
whose murmuration and aerial displays
are a sight to behold. Their wistful calls
alert us to their presence and the glint of
their underwings against the blue sky are
simply mesmerizing. We've recorded 60
species of birds on or near Venn Farm,
making it a true birdwatcher's paradise.
Winter wonders
The air is cold and crisp and often filled with the
haunting calls of the Tawny and Barn owls. The
orchard has become a bustling hub for winter
visitors such as fieldfares, feasting on fallen
apples and our blackbird numbers swell with
visitors from the continent. Our resident
bullfinches, with their distinctive white rump
flashes, make their presence known with a
squeaky wheelbarrow-like call. We eagerly await
the first snowdrops, primroses, and daffodils to
break through the frosty ground.
From the first snowdrops of our January winter to the golden plovers
of autumn, Venn Farm is a year-round celebration of nature's beauty.
