NN : where did you grow up ?
I grew up in Birmingham and London 3 I9ve spent some time in Bristol and
Manchester, so I've sort of traveled and been in different spots but I've
spent a lot of time in Cornwall as well .
NN : so how did you get into the whole Reggae thing?
Ron : well I was brought up on music like Rock and Reggae through my
dad and mum. It's a musical family. I love reggae but predominantly our
music is not genre, it9s a fusion. Reggae is the heartbeat of it but it's mixed
in a with lot of Rock, a lot of Ska, a lot of World and Soul, Indian innuences
so it's it's a full range and mix but reggae - I love the message in the music
of Reggae and the heartbeat of the music. It's one of my favourite musics
to listen to and play
NN : and we're putting on a Caribbean evening what can you bring to
the mix
Ron : so for the Caribbean evening we'll bring our good soul, all our
energy, our music and a whole lot of Lionstar vibrations which is Party Time
music
NN : and what's the best gig you've ever been to
Ron : What, to choose one?? Wow - the best gig I've ever been to was The
Rolling Stones in Holland (Nijmegen 3 2007). There was a thunderstorm,
and Van Morrison (another artist I love) was the support act and I was
waiting to hear him sing and then this huge storm broke - lightning hit the
stage and blew up the guitar amp, so he left after
three songs and never came back! Then Keith
Richards came out with his rain stick even though
there was a storm raging it's a storm and came
out with that great line of his about being a
survivor - ` it's good to be here…it's good to be
anywhere!9 And then they just hit Start Me Up
and then they just played for two hours, ending
up with Jumpin9 Jack Flash! And then Santana,
Anoushka Shankar, Rage Against the Machine, Ziggy Marley, Steven
Marley. I9ve met Steven, Ziggy and Julian Marley and the Wailers - they've
been in our tour bus.
NN Have you ever seen Bob Marley live?
Ron : Unfortunately I wasn't born at that time, but I've seen Ziggy and that's
the same spirit and soul, and I've met Steven and for me that's like seeing
the continuation of Bob, you know?
