you were to get in the way you would be killed. I don't know if that has
been proven! It may be as I was told as a child, that a strike from a swan's
wing could break your leg! Training goes on apace, and on the 7th of
June I'm doing a 26 mile walk on the Jurassic Coast in aid of Alzheimer's
Research. I'm on `Just Giving - Eric Puffett9 if anyone feels like adding to
the £200 raised at the celebration for the life of Sue. A further £200 each
went to Cancer Research and the Hospice. Anna (Pineapple) Merrett,
who some of you may remember from living in Huxley way back in the
1980s, is walking with me as well. I have to do some more walks on the
Tiverton canal, not necessarily the full distance. If anyone fancies joining
me, you know where I live! The Portuguese Camino is mainly nat, unlike
the French one over the Pyrenees. There were two very, very long climbs
on that one and it shocked me to see so many crosses on the way. One
was a lady and the inscription read `her Camino ended here9. One man
from South America died 500 metres from the end of the orst day's walk,
which happened to be at a monastery. We
always planned to do a presentation on the
French Camino, but with Sue's mind failing
due to Alzheimer's it was not to be. She was
diagnosed with full blown Alzheimer's at
Derriford. Following an unclear medical
examination, her brain was completely
covered with amyloid plaque (the abnormal
proteins which play a central part in
Alzheimer9s) and she was about to embark
on a three-year American drug trial. But
when we went to have her orst infusion on
the 21st of August last year it was found she
was jaundiced and could not proceed further. Investigations showed
pancreatic cancer - inoperable and incurable. We all know the conclusion
on the 3rd of December.
