I'm onding this rather difocult - the normal scribe
appears to have gone walkabout. In the last Nympton News, Sue
wrote about our next long walk from Lisbon Cathedral north up the
coast 600 miles to Santiago de
Compostela. That should have been
last Autumn. Of course that didn't
happen, but I still hope to be able to do
it starting on the 1st of September. Two
ladies, one Canadian, one Taiwanese,
are starting the same day and going all
the way. If all goes to plan, I9m hoping to
have some local company as well.
Lorraine Pailthorpe is hoping to walk the
orst week. Martin will then join me for
the last of four weeks and at the
Cathedral Square, which is amazing.
The Cathedral holds 1000 people and there are two Pilgrim masses
each day, full to capacity. The
building is home to a massive
incense burner 3 one of the
largest in the world. At the
noon mass, the 80 kg
Botafumeiro (as it is known) is
suspended from a pulley
mechanism that dates back to
1604. 3 or 4 men start it
swinging and it can hit over 40
miles an hour with incense billowing out. Chris Ponder tells me if
