Alongside events in the village, we9re keen to feature a wider range
of What9s Ons from venues across the area
The Plough is celebrating its 50th anniversary this
year with a range of events, not least an anniversary
exhibition running until 31st May. The centre has an
ever expanding range of workshops in Torrington and Barnstaple
alongside theatre, music, comedy and olm. Highlights include all star NT
Live9 productions of `Dr Strangelove9 and Macbeth, Seth Lakeman live,
tributes to Bowie and Coldplay, a staged concert of Les Mis, and author
Raynor `Salt Path9 Winn appearing with Gigspanner
There9s a `rich9 seam of comedy coming to the Queen9s
Theatre in the next few months, with Rich Hall (idle but
intimidating, says the blurb) Al Murray9s Pub Landlord
(where front row seats come with a free poncho!), and
Jimmy Tarbuck (or Liza9s dad, as he is known now!). Plenty
of great tribute acts (Marley, Whitney Houston, the Spice Girls, Coldplay
and more) the ever popular (and `VERY naughty9) adult panto Sleeping
Beauty and theatre in the shape of Famr Boy, Michael Morpurgo9s sequel
to War Horse.
The Burton Gallery in Bideford is hosting an
exhibition by Emma Stibbon called `Rising Tides9, in
which she documents through large scale drawings
and prints the effects of global warming on the polar regions, and closer to
home on the North Devon coast. The exhibition includes a olm, drawing
workshops and discussions about Art and the Environment. The Burton
also has a fabulous French bistro!
And an annual; reminder that the Appledore Book Festival will be back in
September, so time to start thinking about joining the Friends to get
priority booking and support a festival that punches way above its weight!
