more likely it is to appreciate nature and
history and a quest for spiritual
enlightenment. Her subsequent plans for a
second - Portuguese 3 Camino for the early
autumn were not to be fulolled.
The Lighthouse faced her last 3 months with a
remarkable degree of fortitude, peace and
dignity. "It is what it is" became her catch phrase and she got a tee shirt
with that motto printed on it. She and Eric were overwhelmed by the
kindness of the village community - meals, cakes, cards, nowers, phone
calls and offers of beds for visitors from afar.
Her closest teenage friend Helen (Saint Helen) came from Wales to be
with her for much of the time along with family members Mary, Suzie
Puffett, and many more - her sister Ali and Helen were a wonderfully
supportive team to Sue - to Eric - and, let us not forget, to the friends who
came to visit too. The volume of visitors to her sitting room bed over
those weeks was quite astonishing - from members of her dearest and
closest family, to a rather splendid chicken..... called Hetty..
Sue was very fond of animals and she and Eric often took charge of Tux
when their god-daughter Ava Rose was going away on holiday. Sue loved
and appreciated all the kindness over those short
months - and she was at home - in her lovely
community - surrounded by people who cared for
her deeply. There is an oft quoted saying - "There
really is only one happiness in this life- to love and
be loved" and, for our lighthouse, we will see her
no more but her light will shine in the hearts of all
those whose lives she touched.
