For the latest in our series on Local Heroes, Linda Greetham is putting the
spotlight on Kings Nympton school, so that we can get to know our
village children9s teachers better. Over our next three editions we will be
hearing from the teachers and begin with Mrs Stapley and Mrs Betts.
Name: Mrs Kelly Stapley4preschool
How long have you been teaching?
18 years
How long have you been teaching at Kings Nympton
Primary school?
2.5 years
What made you become a teacher?
I had some inspiring teachers when I was at primary
school (a long time ago!)
What do you ond most rewarding about your job?
It is a privilege to be part of the children9s learning journey and to see how
children learn and develop each day! We are very fortunate at this school
because we are well supported by families and friends of the community.
What is a typical day for you?
Routines and structure is important for all children but each day the
children bring something new and we are always learning.
What is the best time of the school day?
The morning when we greet the children, they are excited for the day
ahead and we catch up on what they want to share.
Have you had any amusing incidents over the years you would like to
share?
There have been quite a few funny stories but several years ago when I
worked at a different school the children had an amusing take on chicken
pox! In a cozy classroom, a group of reception children sat in a circle,
eagerly sharing their weekend adventures.
When it was Aiden9s turn, he excitedly
exclaimed, "I had chicken pox!" The room fell
silent, and eyes widened. Curious, Sarah asked,
"Did it taste like chicken nuggets?" Aiden
looked puzzled. "No, Sarah! Chicken pox isn't
food. It's these itchy red spots you get on your
skin." Aiden chimed in, "Oh! I thought it was a
spicy chicken nugget."
